newspapers

Image
As a very far right newspaper the Daily Express is very patriotic and decides to present the terror attacks as a sort of 'keep calm and carry on' traditional english beliefs. The Daily Express is very stiff upper lipped and presents the traditional British values.  Although the evening standard has a very similar take on the story they seem to highlight a big point. They also seem to focus on the pro Briton mentality but they also seem to highlight Al Qaeda are involved and that ' muslims' are to blame. As they are a right wing newspaper this would be expected.    .

Ethnicity in the media

Image
Many ethnic groups a represented in the media. Usually these groups are portrayed with a stereotype to go with them. I will be looking at a few examples that explore these stereotypes and negative and positive representations of ethnicity in the media. The first thing ill be looking at is an australian KFC advert. It depicts a white man in a small crowd of black and brown people. He is very clearly the odd one out. He is wearing an australian shirt and sticks out. Although the point of the ad is that because he supports the loosing team he is the odd one out, but in the add, as all of the other fans are black, it makes what happens later on in the advert seem very racist and stereotypical. He proceeds to hand out a bucket of chicken. This is very racist as black people are stereotypically defined as eating fried chicken only. As a result it gives the impression that black people only eat chicken. One of the adverts we looked at in class is the skittles advert. The advert d

Task 3

A) 5 famous slogans 'Just Do It' - Nike 'Finger Licking Good' - KFC 'Have a break, Have a KitKat' - KitKat 'Taste the rainbow' - Skittles 'Snickers, Get some nuts' - Snickers B) This advert is a shock tactic advert which depicts a man driving dangerously and kills loads of children. This advert scares people into driving safely and cautiously as it reinforces fear of killing children. The fact that the start of the video is very calm reinforces the sense of safety and sensitivity. The children are innocent and ignorant to anything apart from the nature around them. This shocks the viewer into being more cautious about their surroundings are reinforces the fact that they should drive slowly. C) The snickers advert depicts Mr Bean jumping over roofs with other samurais. He falls through a roof and is surrounded by other samurais. The idea of the advert is that ' your not you when your hungry' and you feel like Mr Bean. In r

Mac and PC advertising campaign

Image
In this essay I will be talking about the Mac advertising campaign called Mac and PC. firstly I would like to discuss what an advertising campaign is a series of adverts which maybe different but convey the same message and sell the same product. In the Mac and PC advertising campaign there are two people, one being an older larger business man who is stereotypically nerdy, and the other being a cool young lad who is much more cool and trendy. Each of these people represent a Mac or a PC. The fact that the PC is represented as an older uncool man convinces people that PC's are for the working uncool people. Although most of these ads are done in satire they do convey the point that Macs are much better. Each ad usually conveys a certain point where a Mac is superior. A good example of this is the box ad where the people represent the computers straight out the box. The Mac is eager and raring to go where as the PC has to set up and boot and seems to be interested in boring

Cross Platform Advertising

Image
In this essay I will be discussing what cross platform advertising is, the history of it and how it effects a company. Cross platform advertising is advertising in all forms of media. Many companies and buisnesses want their products to reach many people using different forms of media. An example of this is social media and website advertising. Using pop up ads on youtube videos and websites , a company can have more exposure on a certain product or service. Advertising on all forms of media will attract a much larger audience also. Rather than just advertising on Tv or print, which has been on the decline for a long time, advertising on many forms of media makes it so more people will see the ads and there is more likely to be higher sales. An example of cross platform advertising would be when a company shows an ad not just on one form of media but shows the same or similar ads on social media or in print also. A good example of these types of ads are the betfair ads. As well

Gender Representation

Image
In the media there are many representations of certain groups which usually create unfair real life stereotypes for these groups. Some of these groups ,such as men and women, are as a result defend by their stereotypes. Some of these stereotypes for women ,such as a housewife or a sexy object, make it so its really hard for women to get jobs outside these generic roles. Women in the media Housewife Stereotype For the housewife stereotype we looked at an Asda christmas advert. In this advert the wife is being stereotyped as doing all the generic female jobs. She cooks, cleans, looks after the kids and gets stuck with the worst seat at christmas. All of these little task that she does creates an unfair representation of older women. It presents women as being only good for two things: Sex and chores. To emphasise this point, the husband in the relationship usually is presented as useless and not being able to match the mothers skills in chores. This point is further empha

Dear Future Husband Analysis

Image
The music video for ‘dear future husband’, deals with themes or irony and stereotype of men and women. Most of the video depicts the star, Meghan Trainer, dressed in very stereotypical 50’s clothing. During the video she is wearing a red apron and clothes from that time period. This is because the 50’s was very known for the stay at home mum.  Much of the music video is ironic in the sense that she is singing about how women are as equal as men are yet throughout the entire video she is shown to be doing stereotypical women jobs such as cleaning, cooking and housework. Much of this irony comes down to the fact that the lyrics say that although the man may have a 9 till 5 ‘so does she’. I think throughout the video Meghan trainer is trying to purposefully contradict herself with the stereotypes in the video until it leads up till the end. Throughout the music video she is constantly referencing the fact that she wants a strong man that can cook and be a gentleman, I think t
