Statement of Aims and Intentions
I aim to create a surrealistic crime drama which explores the mental health of a victim of a crime. I was mainly influenced by mainstream surrealist TV shows such as Black Mirror and American Horror story. Both Black Mirror and American Horror Story deal with disappoints themes and usually focus on dark and almost satanic tones. I will try to incorporate this into my TV show by using dark cinematography and also eerie music like these two shows usually do.
My TV show will feature One main protagonist. The show will tackle the drama this victim faces after a crime has been committed to his family and the show will be mainly abased around him. I will also include another two protagonists who will just be supporting characters.
My TV show will be on Channel 4 and aired at around 10 clock. As this is past the watershed it will be dark and gritty and also feature more mature content to that of a show before the watershed. My intended audience is around the 18-35 year olds meaning it will have a complex and diverse story line.
I aim to film in a few obscure and almost abstract locations. My TV show being a surrealistic disappoints crime drama, filming in many abstract and almost weird locations such as an underpass or train tracks adds to the genre conventions and also adds to the eerie nature of the program. I will also make sure that I film a section of my TV show in black and white. Playing around with colors and cinematography is convention of the surrealistic genre and is clearly shown in episodes of Black Mirror. Having this black and white grayscale section will also act as a narrative twist in my TV show.
For my print piece I will aim to create a cover of a lifestyle magazine advertising my TV show and a double page spread featuring an interview from the director of my TV show. On the front cover I aim to use one main image featuring the face of the main character in the show. I will also include a punch and catchy headline to entice the reader and audience for my TV show to read the article. I will also add some text down the sides relating to other articles so that it fits with the conventions of a lifestyle magazine. I will also add a price on the front and a barded for exclusive content.
In my double page spread I will feature one main image and three other smaller images all relating to my TV show. I aim to include a pull quote from the article also to entice the reader to read the remainder of the article. I aim to have very soft colors in my double page spread so its easier on the eye of the reader and also fitting with the usual style of a lifestyle magazine.
In conclusion I aim to create a media visual piece that vive filmed in many locations that fits with the style of the genre and appeals to the target audience. In my print I also aim to do this and fit with the conventions of a lifestyle magazine.
