Luther- Opening 15 Mins Analysis and comparison with The Fall

The first opening shot of the pre credit sequence is an establishing shot of the location in which the following scene will take place. We see a dark almost abandoned warehouse. The fact that this is dark and gloomy tells the audience that this part of the show is going to be gritty and realistic. This also sets the tone for the rest of the pre credit sequence. In The fall the opening shots are a handheld shot following a woman in her apartment alone. The fact that the shot is handheld makes it almost feel like we are spying on her and hiding from her sight. Luther starts off the series in media res and right in the centre of the action. This sets the tone for the show as being fast paced and quick. This also tells us that the detective, luther, will be following this fast paced convention. Differently The fall starts off very slow and at the beginning of our story. This sets the tone of intricacy and details. After this shot there is a quick cut of shots of a man. This builds ten
